Transactional Analysis

Transactional Analysis (TA) is a theory of personality, communication, child development and psychopathology developed by Eric Berne, an American psychiatrist, and is a method used to analyse how we relate and communicate with one another.  TA is centred on the possibilities for growth and development by exploring how an individual’s past experiences impact their present functioning.  TA facilitates a deeper understanding and awareness of who we are and why we do what we do and opens individuals to the possibility of changing patterns of thinking, feeling and behaviour that no longer work for them. The tools of TA are designed to help a person achieve autonomy in their life.

TA is a contractual method whereby both client and therapist commit equal responsibility to their working relationship by maintaining an open dialogue of communication about what is going on.
