What is Couples Counselling?
Have you come to a standstill in your relationship and don’t know how to move forward? Couples counselling gives you the time and space to talk about what is going on in your relationship and look at what you are looking to change. It is a safe and confidential space for you to increase your awareness and understanding of how your patterns of relating impact your relationship and each other.
What is the process?
I want you both to get a better understanding of yourselves individually in your relationship. To achieve this the process involves looking at your past histories and the models of relating that you grew up with from your family of origin. In understanding where you have both come from, what you have both brought to the relationship and how this impacts the quality of your relationship, then this understanding helps relax your defences and increases empathy and compassion between you. We can then look at your patterns of communication, evaluate how effective / ineffective they are in you both getting your needs met and look at alternative ways of communicating to achieve different results.
We start with an initial session of 50 minutes for us all to see how we feel about working together, discuss your goals and for me to talk about how I work. The next step is the assessment session which is 75 minutes and is when I find out more about both of your histories. Subsequent sessions are 75 minutes long and are every two weeks which gives you both time to reflect on and process the session and start to implement changes
Initial session – 50 minutes = £60
Assessment session and subsequent sessions – 75 minutes = £90
