Sometimes we can feel overwhelmed, confused and alone in how we think and feel. Perhaps we can’t make sense of this on our own and are looking for someone to help us unravel and explore our confusion to gain understanding and meaning. Speaking to a professional can help you do this.
I provide a safe, contained and confidential space for you to speak openly and honestly about what is going on for you. This is a place for you to experiment and talk in a way that isn’t always possible with friends and family. It involves me supporting and walking alongside you and empowering you to make decisions about your life.
My Oxted practice is located in a quiet countryside setting which provides a restful and calming atmosphere. There is easy access to the M25, Redhill, Caterham, East Grinstead and other surrounding areas.
If you live to the east of this area I also run a practice in Sevenoaks.
My name is Tara Longworth and I am a fully qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I am a Registered Member of the BACP and hold a post-graduate UKATA Diploma in TA Practice. I have also completed four years of post-graduate Advanced Clinical Training in Transactional Analysis. I am trained in Transactional Analysis, a theory of personality and communication, and work integratively drawing on other models and theories to meet individual needs.
I work on a short, medium or long-term basis and have extensive experience both as a volunteer and in the private sector working. In my Oxted practice I work with adults and young adults with a wide range of presenting issues. These include: Depression, Anxiety, Relationships, Family and Childhood, Sexual Abuse, Stress, Anger, Bullying, Eating Disorders, Trauma and PTSD, Shame, Loneliness, Low Confidence, Self-Esteem, Loss and Bereavement.
I am a member of BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy), UKATA (UK Association for Transactional Analysis). I work in accordance with the Codes of Ethics and Professional Practice of these professional bodies. As a part of my continuing professional development I have regular supervision with other experienced professional UKCP psychotherapists and engage in regular training.
How I Work
My approach is relational which is a model driven by your experience and your needs and how these are understood and addressed within the therapy relationship. I work with a wide range of psychological and emotional problems and many are rooted in troubled relationships, past and present. Talking through your problems in terms of context, what’s happening in your life right now and the history behind what’s happening now and telling your relational story to a professional who is listening carefully and empathically, can make a difference to your self-understanding and to your symptoms.
The number of sessions can be worked out together. I offer both Counselling and Psychotherapy. The difference being that Counselling tends to be short to medium term working in the here-and-now with less complex issues.
Psychotherapy is medium to long-term and involves working in greater depth with more deep-rooted issues and patterns of relating from the past and therefore more complex issues. Both Counselling and Psychotherapy are closely related and are both ‘Talking Therapies’.
How to Make that First Step
I know how frightening it can be to not only acknowledge that you need help, but to actually take that initial step towards finding support and help. To make it easier, I offer a free 15 minute phone call where together, we can discuss how I might help you and whether you would like to meet. Our first meeting is offered at a reduced price and is an opportunity for you to explore what is going on for you and what you hope to achieve in therapy with me.
